On April 10, 2025, a Canadian County jury convicted Jay Lynn Benson of three counts of Lewd Acts with a Minor under 16-years-old, three counts of Lewd Acts with a Minor under 12-years-old. Charges resulted from the sexual assault of two girls that spanned between October of 2018 until November of 2021. The trial lasted four days.
The victims testified that Mr. Benson would touch their private parts, and have the survivors touch him. The jury heard testimony from both victims who disclosed the abuse they suffered. The jury also considered the recorded forensic interviews given by both victins from when the offense was first reported.
The jury deliberated for approximately six hours before returning guilty verdicts on six of the seven counts which were filed. The jury recommended punishments totaling 135 years.
“This was an emotional case. The victims endured unimaginable abuse at the hands of their abuser. I applaud and thank the victims for having the courage to face their abuser,” said District Attorney Tommy Humphries.
Formal sentencing is set for May 13, 2025 in front of District Judge Paul Hesse, who presided over the trial.
