On January 10, 2025, a Canadian County jury comprised of seven women and five men convicted Scott Wayne Davis of Rape in the Second Degree, three counts of Rape by Instrumentation, three counts of Lewd Acts with a Child Under 16, and a count of Forcible Sodomy. Charges resulted from a sexual assault of a fourteen-year-old girl on April 15, 2022 in southwest Oklahoma City near Mustang. The trial lasted five days.
The victim testified that Davis woke her in the middle of the night and assaulted her for nearly an hour. The jury heard testimony from a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner who treated the victim the evening after the attack. The jury also considered the victim’s recorded interview and DNA evidence which linked Davis to the attack.
The jury deliberated for approximately four hours before returning guilty verdicts on eight of the nine counts which were filed. The jury recommended punishments totaling 127 years.
“This result would not have been possible without the hard work of our law enforcement partners. The Oklahoma City Police Department worked quickly to develop a case against Davis and secure his apprehension. The OCPD crime lab had preliminary DNA results within a week of the attack,” said First Assistant District Attorney Eric Epplin, who tried the case with Assistant District Attorney Taylor Brown.
“Our prosecution team did an excellent job. Charges were filed over two and a half years ago. The victim of this attack never gave up on the process and participated from beginning to end. Without her participation, we could not have achieved this result. Because of her bravery, this assailant will be behind bars for the foreseeable future and our children will be safer,” said District Attorney Tommy Humphries.
Formal sentencing is set for March 13 in front of District Judge Khristan Strubhar, who presided over the trial.
