On August 14, 2026, a Garfield County jury convicted Trevion Jaequon Malik Hartfield of one count of Murder in the First Degree and three counts of Shooting with Intent to Kill.

The charges stemmed from two separate incidents. On April 9, 2025, following a physical altercation with Clayton Rowland, Hartfield, then 19, fired multiple gunshots at Rowland and Damuras Porter while they were stopped in a vehicle. Neither victim was struck.

The following day, April 10, 2025, a second altercation involving gunfire between Hartfield and Rowland resulted in Rowland’s death. He was 17 years old at the time.

The jury deliberated for approximately two hours before returning guilty verdicts on all counts. The jury recommended a sentence of life imprisonment on the Murder charge and ten years on each of the three Shooting with Intent to Kill counts.

“The Enid Police Department did an outstanding job investigating these shootings, identifying Hartfield, and bringing the evidence together for prosecution,” said Assistant District Attorney Ben Bowers, who tried the case with Assistant District Attorney Baleigh Herring. “We are grateful for the professionalism and dedication of the officers and investigators who worked on this case, as well as for the time and careful consideration the jurors gave to the evidence throughout the trial.”

“Safe communities do not tolerate senseless acts of violence such as this. The life of a 17-year-old was taken entirely too soon,” said District Attorney Tommy Humphries. “While no verdict can undo the loss suffered by Clayton Rowland’s family, this verdict holds Hartfield accountable for his actions. I commend our prosecutors and the Enid Police Department for their dedication to seeing this case through.”

Formal sentencing is set for October 5, 2026,at 10 am before District Judge Jason Seigars, who presided over the trial.
